Radio occultation based gridded climate data sets (RO-CLIM)
1. Project Description
SCOPE-CM (“Sustained and coordinated processing of Environmental Satellite data for Climate Monitoring”) is a network of agencies and operators of environmental satellite systems, supporting the generation of Climate Data Records (CDRs) from multi-agency satellite data. It is a WMO initiative, but interfaces strongly to both CGMS and CEOS. Within SCOPE-CM, the contributing organisations coordinate scientific and technical development activities and cooperate on the generation of global climate data records. The overall aim is the advancement of the sustained generation of CDRs from satellite data.
In 2013, the collaborators within the ROTrends project submitted a Letter of Intent to the “2013 Call for LoI for SCOPE-CM Projects”. The suggested project, named RO-CLIM, covers the generation of climatological data from RO and model data. RO-CLIM also puts the work performed under ROTrends into the formal SCOPE-CM framework. It was accepted by the SCOPE-CM Executive Panel and a full Project Description [1], and a first year Project Plan and Progress Report [2] were prepared for the RO-CLIM project, which formally started on Jan 1, 2014. The Project Plan and Progress Report is used for reporting to the SCOPE-CM Executive Panel and is thus updated annually.
Summary presentations from the SCOPE-CM Executive Panel Meetings are given below, together with the annually updated project documents and some of the key reference documents.
